Araucaria subulata Vieill.Common NamesNarrow-leaf araucaria (Silba 1986). Taxonomic notesSyn: A. balansae Brong. et Griseb. (Silba 1986). Description"A columnar tree to 50 m tall. Bark gray, exfoliating in thin strips. Branches in one plane in a sharp V-like pattern or in a U-like pattern, 5-9 mm. in diameter. Juvenile leaves needle-like, narrowly lanceolate, curved inwards. Adult leaves scale-like, midrib prominent, lanceolate, curved inwards, 4-6 mm. long by 2-2.5 mm. wide, keeled dorsally. Male cone cylindrical, 5-10 cm. long by 1.2-1.3 cm. wide, pollen sacs 10, microsporophylls triangular. Female cone globose, 11-12 cm. long by 7-9 cm. wide, bracts short, to 6 mm. long.
