Syn.: Ephedra sinica subsp. dahurica (Turcz.) Galanin 2008.

Based on nuclear ribosomal and chloroplast molecular analyses, one subspecies has been described, Ephedra dahurica subsp. sinica, syn. Ephedra sinica Stapf 1927 (Kakiuchi et al. 2011).
