Picea koraiensis NakaiCommon NamesKorean spruce; Jel koreiskaya [Russian]; Hongpi yunshan [Chinese] (Farjon 1990). Taxonomic notesSyn: P. koyamai var. koraiensis (Nakai) Liou & Wang, pro syn.; P. intercedens Nakai; P. tonaiensis Nakai. One variety, P. koraiensis var. pungsanensis (Uyeki ex Nakai) Schmidt-Vogt ex Farjon 1990 (syn: P. pungsanensis Uyeki ex Nakai 1941) (Farjon 1990). DescriptionRangeNorth Korea, mainly along the Yalu River. Also China: Jilin (Changbai Shan) and Russia: on the Ussuri River (Farjon 1990). In Russia only in southernmost Ussuriland, very rare (Vladimir Dinets e-mail 2-Jan-1998). Var. pungsanensis is retricted to several locations in North Korea (Farjon 1990). Big TreeOldestDendrochronologyEthnobotanyObservationsRemarksPicea koraiensis var. pungsanensis is on the WCMC Red List as vulnerable, population stable but known from fewer than five localities. It "is restricted to a few localities of upland coniferous forest along the coast at Keizanchin, Mt. Pungsan and Hamnam [North Korea].
