Silba 1984; P. yunnanensis var. tenuifolia Cheng & Law 1975; P. insularis var. tenuifolia (Cheng & Law) Silba 1990 (Li 1997); P. tabulaeformis var. yunnanensis (Franchet) Shaw (Farjon 1984). Closely related species in subsection Pinus include: P. tabuliformis (adjunct range to N), P. kesiya (adjunct range to S) (Richardson and Rundel 1998), and (via cpDNA data) P. hwangshanensis, P. taiwanensis and P. thunbergii (Price et al. 1998). DescriptionTree: RangeChina: predominantly at 600-3000 m elevation on the high plateaus of Yunnan (Li 1997), but extending N into Sichuan, where it intergrades with P. tabuliformis, and S into N Burma, where it intergrades with P. kesiya.
