Description

"Shrub to small tree, 3-7 m tall. Leaves elliptic to ovate, 2-3 cm long 0.4-0.8 cm wide, cuneate at base, obtuse to narrowly rounded at apex, with a median groove in upper surface and a median groove in lower surface or a median groove between two ridges on lower surface. Bud scales ovate and acute to acummate at apex. Microsporangiate strobilus axillary, solitary, cylindical, sessile, to 1.5 cm long. Ovulate strobilus with peduncle 8-10 mm long, receptacle 8 mm long with two fused bracts. Seed ovoid, 8 mm long, 5 mm in diameter, abruptly acuminate at apex, cristate" (Stevenson 1991).

In 2010, the IUCN assessed this taxon's conservation status as "Least Concern", but since their 2013 update has synonymized it with Podocarpus roraimai.

Distribution and Ecology

"Presently known only from the Guyana Highlands of Venezuela, from 2100-2500 m. To be expected in contiguous Guyana" (Stevenson 1991).
