"Tjamarah, J, at variance for Casuarina which does not occur so far west in Java." (de Laubenfels 1988).

Taxonomic notes

Syn: Podocarpus cupressina var. curvula Miq. 1851; Podocarpus imbricatus var. curvula (Miq.) Wasscher 1941 (de Laubenfels 1988).

Description

"Shrubby pyramidal tree to 8 m tall and sometimes procumbent. Foliage shoots curved downwards but main branches curved upwards. Adult foliage leaves like var. imbricatus but distinctly more robust, 1.2-2 by 0.8-1 mm. Involucral leaves 2.5-4.5 mm long and more or less clasping the receptacle" (de Laubenfels 1988).

Range

N Sumatra (Atjeh: Leuser complex & G. Bandahara) and W Java (Priangan; Diëng). "In N. Sumatra forms pure stands on exposed mossy mountain peaks, on blangs and steep slopes, between 2000 and 3420 m" (de Laubenfels 1988).
