Description

Large tree. Leaves lanceolate, coriaceous, ridged above the midvein, in two forms, juvenile and adult. Juvenile leaves borne on "vigorous" shoots, up to 15 × 2 cm. Adult leaves on fertile shoots, 3.7-8.9 × 1.3-1.7 cm. Pollen cones sessile, surrounded by broad, keeled, apiculate scales, 34 × 4 mm. Seed cones on peduncles 4-6 mm long, with receptacle of 2 thick, fused scales up to 6 mm long enclosing a seed up to 10 mm long and 8 mm across, with a blunt crest (Dallimore et al. 1967).

Range

Mexico: Chiapas, Jalisco, Puebla, Tamauhipas, Veracruz; El Salvador?; Guatemala: Huehuetenango (Farjon 1998).
